The black oxfords for the Monday you want to look put together

A pair of black lace up oxfords with a round toe, a patent finish and a rubber sole. The listing positions them for the office, a dinner out or a day of errands, which is a lot to ask of one pair, so here is what the specification actually says.

The shape is a classic brogue style oxford with a round toe and a lace up front. The laces can be pulled snug or left looser, so the fit across the top of the foot is yours to set. The listing calls the upper patent leather fabric, while the specification line says leather. Those are not quite the same statement, and the listing does not say which applies. The shine is the point of patent, and whether that reads as polished or a little costume is a matter of taste.

Underneath, the insole is described as soft and platform shaped, with fabric that is meant not to rub. The sole is listed as rubber, with a lug pattern, an arch support and a nonslip tread for traction. The listing says this adds cushioning for long days on your feet. It gives no heel height, platform thickness, weight or width, so those are unknowns. One more oddity: the closure type field says pull on, though the description is of a lace up shoe. Treat the laces as the likely answer, and check before ordering.

The listing names business, dating, shopping, driving, a bar and a vacation as occasions, and suggests them as a gift. The same shoe is also listed in Brown, Patent and Black6723, with no detail on how they differ.
