The penguins by the front walk on a dark December evening

A penguin family for the front yard, made of textured fabric over a powder coated wire frame and lit from inside by 150 multicolored LEDs. The listing describes a collapsible design that stores flat, which matters more in January than it does in December.

The set is two penguins, a parent and a chick. The parent measures 35 inches long, 18 wide and 36 high. The chick measures 24 by 15 by 24 inches. Both sit on wire frames with a powder coated finish, and the covers are a shimmering, textured, fur like fabric.

Powder coating is a baked on finish, and it is a common reason a wire frame lasts through a wet season, since it keeps water off bare metal. The listing calls the design weather friendly but does not say what the wire is made of, and it gives no water resistance rating for the lights or the cord. Fabric over a frame is where moisture tends to sit, so a dry, sheltered spot suits it best between uses.

Inside, 150 LED lights are strung ahead of time and glow through the fabric, and each penguin holds an extra string of lights for color. Setup means threading the stabilizing frame through the cover and securing it with the eight included stakes. The listing does not state the power source, the cord length, or whether the lights can be replaced. Assembled, the penguins store flat in the included bag. The set also comes in other versions: red as a four piece set, blue as a two piece set, and a five foot red two piece set.
